My wife and I have been attending for over several months now. It's a small congregation which we like, but most of the people tend to seek out those who they know and are not very welcoming to strangers. We do not see much if any growth either. The pastor is great, his messages solid, worship is good and he definitely has a heart for those he leads. Communion is spot on, powerful and gives proper reverence to the finished work of Christ.
In a small church everything is amplified, and unfortunately most of the people do not reflect the pastor's heart for others, at least from our observations these past months. John tells us in 1 John that we should be every increasing in our obedience to His Word, and ever increasing in our love for others. By not doing so one misses out on a possible relationship that God had intended. While there are a small few who do, most do not, and the looks of disapproval my wife (who has tattoos) gets from most of the women there makes us both very uncomfortable, and severely taints what would be a great church. Jesus chose the lowliest in stature and appearance to be his disciples and considered not what they looked like, and it boggles my mind and saddens me to see (for example) someone on stage raising their hands during worship but yet can look with such disdain at someone they've never even taken time to say hello to, and willfully pass by and greet others by us. A powerful indictment. Same with of the older ladies on the side that we sit on. This spirit of judging a book by its cover is ever present and the oneness that Jesus speaks of and what that means is lost on many in attendance. The heart of a church is reflected in the heart of its people.
We are giving it a few more weeks to see how this new worship leader works out.Added March 27, 2017 by Jerry Anderson
