  • The congregation of this church is just too wonderful to describe. You have to meet everyone. This church actually helps people in so many ways. We have helped the Wilson School District for years. The poorest school district in Arizona. Christmas parties, donations, volunteers, just everything we can do to help these great kids, and their parents. They accept anyone that walks in the door, no matter how unique, and individual they might be. With no judgement whatsoever. The building is historical in many ways. It is over 100 years old, and is kept up as nice today, as the day it was built.

First Congregational was the first church in Arizona to have refrigeration. It is said that all the other churches made fun of us. The next year, many churches in Arizona were refrigerated. Not swamp cooled.

It has an amazing pipe organ, and wonderful singers, and musicians. They have community announcements, and events. First Congregational is the only church in Arizona that has a working pipe organ. it is beautiful. I have tried to count the pipes, and just can't. Not only that, but they mix in with the contemporary decor, beautifully. It is like being on the Andy Griffith Show.

That is why it was chosen for the movie, "Waiting to Exhale," With Whitney Houston. With a few alterations, that is our church in the movie. We got a generous donation, and they left the church better than they found it.

When I was in the hospital for two months, the pastor is one of the only people that came to see me. He came to see me in both hospitals, and drove all the way to Scottsdale to see me at the rehab center. I hardly knew him, and they did that for me. I will never forget the pastor, and I could never repay all of my friends here. When I got out, they made me a member, and it was very emotional. I still have my name tag.

If anyone wants to enjoy true fellowship, come to this church. Everyone loves everyone here, and if you don't love them, they will love you until you do.

Please, I encourage you to attend. It is free, and extraordinary way, to have a great day!
